NEW FRANLIN  A negotiated three-year contract with the Manchester Education Association, representing 90 full-time teachers, was approved by the Manchester Local School Board on July 11.

The contract includes a 2 percent raise in the first year, a 2.5 percent raise in the second year and a 2.25 percent raise in the third year. The contract is effective September 1, 2017, through Aug. 31, 2020.

"The best thing we can put in front of our students is good teachers," said Dr. James Robinson, superintendent of the Manchester Local Schools.

Robinson said the negotiations were very professional and went smoothly.

In other personnel matters, the board:

- Approved a three year contract for Robinson, effective August 1, 2017. It also approved a three-year contract to retain Jennifer Rucker as treasurer, effective August 1, 2017.

- Accepted the resignation of Debra Miller, director of food services for the district. Robinson noted she did an outstanding job in her 12 years with the district. Miller has taken a position with the Canton City School District.

- Accepted the certified appointment of Michael Moyseenko, as district vocal music director. Moyseenko last held a similar position at the Montpelier School district in western Ohio.

- Approved a resolution to have the Manchester Local School District become a member of the Stark County Schools’ Council of Governments, known as SCOG. It allows the district to participate in its cooperative purchasing program as well as other programs that become available.
