GREEN Despite a rainy Friday night and FreedomFest being cancelled for the day, the city of Green saw a big turnout for the second day of the event.
An estimated 3,000 to 4,000 people were estimated to be on hand during the day on Saturday, leaving event organizers happy with the results.
"The event attendance this year was awesome," Green special events and program coordinator Kim Goodhart said. "I believe this was true due to 98.1 WKDD-FM being our presenting sponsor along with Children’s Hospital."
Weather for second day of the event featured sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s to help boost Saturday attendance, attending including 12,000 for the fireworks show Saturday night.
FreedomFest offered plenty to do for people young and old, with a zip line and climbing wall for children and vendors and a beer garden for adults. Goodhart said the city limited food vendors and accepted non-food vendors who provided an engaging activity.
Keith Kennedy, senior vice president of Programming Northern Ohio Region at iHeartMedia Inc. and Morning Show Host at 98.1 WKDD, is a Green resident and said his station was happy to partner with the city once again.
"I am a proud resident of Green," Kennedy said. "I wanted to spread the word about this great family event and fireworks show."
Kennedy also said that it is great the city uses a local company, American Firework Company of Hudson, for the show. A lot of compliments were sent Kennedy’s way about the fireworks and he said he didn’t hear one bad thing about FreedomFest.
In the future, he hopes the city and station will partner again.
"I sure hope so, we will be having discussions about that," Kennedy said. "It is the city’s event and we just follow their lead."
