On behalf of the City of New Franklin administration, I would like to thank all those involved in making the 2017 Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Service a huge success. It was so well attended, and the weather was beautiful.
New Franklin resident and US Army veteran, Gary Kindig, served as the Grand Marshal. He spoke of his friend and Manchester High School classmate, Rusty Miller, who was killed in Vietnam, and about a section of State Route 93 now designated as The Burt "Rusty" Miller Memorial Highway.
A huge thank you goes to Grace Bible Church and their team of volunteers for hosting the pre-parade staging, pancake breakfast, and providing hospitality at the Remembrance Service.
Thanks also to the following businesses and organizations that donated items and services: Acme #14; Boat Masters State Park Marine; House of Eberhardt Funeral Home; Manchester McDonalds; and American Legion Post #566.
Also, I would to thank Robyn Miller for help with parade coordination and for arranging the fly-over by a C-130. Additionally, I would like to thank Justin Speight who flew the aircraft. Speight is a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force Reserve and an At-Large Council member for the city of Green. The fly-over was amazing and is still being discussed.
Finally, thank you to all who came out to enjoy the parade and service, and continued this wonderful community tradition. It was only possible with the help of so many!
With sincere gratitude,
