The Manchester Alumni Association will honor its 2017 Distinguished Alumni award winners at 6:30 p.m. June 10 at Prestwick Country Club. This year’s recipients are Dr. Elca Swigart, PhD, Class of 1957 (Alumni Achievement Award); Dr. Vincent Sudimak, Class of 2001 (Early Career Achievement Award); Al Knack, Class of 1973 (Leadership Excellence Award); Joe Ashley, Class of 2000 (Posthumous Panther Alumni Award); and Sam Reynolds (Outstanding Educator Award).
Dr. Swigart is Director of the Speech and Hearing Department at the Reading, PA Medical Center. An acclaimed audiologist, she specializes in pediatric and neonatal work, as well as cochlear implants. Dr. Sudimak is a vascular surgeon with Summa Health Systems; Knack has served as mayor of Clinton since 2012; Ashley was a Navy machinist who died from injuries suffered when his nuclear submarine ran aground near Guam in 2005; and Reynolds served in the Manchester Local Schools for more than 40 years as a teacher, director of curriculum, and superintendent.
