The award-winning Lake High School Jazz Band will end the year in style with the Lake Jazz Festival at 7 p.m. April 26 in the school's Performing Arts Hall.

The event is free and a cookies and punch reception will follow the show.

The Jazz Festival gives the community a chance to listen to a band that recently earned high praise at the annual Maplerock Jazz Festival at Ashland University, which brought gues artists from around the country to listen to high school bands performs.

The guest artists then reviewed and discussed each performance. Lake led all the bands as 10 of the 18 musicians were recognized for their abilities. Those students recognized were Cassidy Ditchkus, Jason Zwick, Adam McClosky, Nick Kohler, Sam Merendino, Emily Schrembeck, Logan Martin, Rachelle Leeper, Sam Bruner, and Lucas Spencer.

“We are very proud of all members of the Lake High School Jazz Band, and hope that you will help them finish their year off strong by attending the Lake Jazz Festival," said Lake Jazz Band Director Josh Laux in a news release.

"We had the pleasure of having Chris Anderson, trombonist with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and Wayne Bergeron, nationally and internationally renowned trumpeter, as our clinicians. They were very impressed with the work that our students produced and provided some ways to continue enhancing our jazz knowledge,” added Laux.

That evening the guest clinicians performed with Ashland’s top jazz band in a closing concert.
