Dollar Days at the zoo

The Akron Zoo will be hosting a brand new event to start the new year; Dollar Days will take place every Saturday and Sunday in January, including this weekend, Jan. 21, 22, 28 and 29. Each weekend will feature a special at the zoo for only $1, which may include food, experiences at the zoo or even admission. People can find out the discounts the Wednesday before each weekend on the zoo’s website and social media accounts. Winter hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is $7 per person. Children under two are free. The parking fee is $3. For more information visit or call 330-375-2550. On Monday, the zoo is offering free admission for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Akron Branch of the NAACP will be on hand with an activities table (while supplies last).

Family Fun Night

Join in Family Fun Night at Lake Anna YMCA from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The evening will include activities such as swimming, crafts, games and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is requested and refreshments will be served. The Y is located at 500 W. Hopocan Avenue.

Comic relief

Comedian Krish Mohan explores the idea of Happiness and perceptions of mental illness in today’s society. He is removing the stigmas associated with immigration, drugs, gun control, racism and being accountable for the problems we’ve created; all revolving around the subject of mental health. Krish will be performing his one hour show called "Approaching Happiness" at the Hive Mind in Akron at 8 p.m. Thursday. Hive Mind is at 373 W Exchange Street, Akron. A $5 donation is suggested.
