NEW FRANKLIN  Keeping to a regular replacement schedule for school buses, the Manchester Local School Board approved replacing one older school bus for the 2016 fiscal year during its final regular board meeting in December.

The board approved purchase of one IC PB 100-77 passenger school bus from Truck Sales & Service for $91,920 and financed it through First Merit Bank.

"All of our bus purchases are financed due to the cost and the district always seeks bids for a bus," said Manchester Local Superintendent James Robinson.

Only two bids were received. The other was submitted by Myers Bus.

There are 20 buses in the school district fleet. The next bus replacement is set for the 2017-18 school year. Financing of the bus purchase is for six years.

In other business, the board approved a 2018 trip to Disney World for the Manchester High School Marching Band from March 26, 2018, through March 31, 2018. The band will perform at Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom.

Donations were accepted for a new fund, the Mrs. Stephens Children’s Fund from the following: Eric Stephens, $1,000; Matthew Stephens, $1,000; James Stephens, $1,000; and John Stephens, $1,000.

"This is a fund that is to last for 10 years at $4,000 per year by the children of Mrs. Stephens, a past employee and volunteer in the district, whose children went to Manchester Schools," Robinson said.
