Child Guidance & Family Solutions has announced that Stacey Kelly, Child & Family Partner, has been recognized by Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority’s top administration for taking the initiative and using creativity to involve children and families. Kelly is a Solutions staff member who works with the housing authority in the Early Childhood Initiative.

Kelly worked with toddlers and preschoolers at four housing authority early childhood initiative development events in November to design and craft snowflakes to reflect the idea that “children are special and unique like snowflakes.” She decorated the housing authority’s entryways with the snowflakes and the cirriculum logo on the doors. The display has prompted incoming residents to inquire about the program.

The program offers early care and education to 3,000 children under age 5. Nearly 10 percent of the county's children are in this age group. The goal is to connect families to build trusting relationships and empower parents to be their child's first and most important teacher. Early Childhood Inititive also links families to community resources and offers monthly educational family events in selected housing developments, such as the Mom-ME Time and Parents as Teachers programs.

Kelly provides home visits to assist with pre-school and kindergarten readiness by way of screening assessments, referrals, educational activities and support to families. She has a degree in education from Walsh University.
