Department for all of the thankless hours that they have put in this year to groom the fields so that the children can play,” Elkins said. “And one specific individual who needs to be thanked is Kim Goodhart, who coordinated all the fields being done on time according to the divisions playing.”

It goes even further than that. It starts at home with the players themselves and their parents.

“I would also like to give a big thanks to all the parents for their dedication to their sons’ success throughout the season,” Elkins said. “All the players throughout Green Little League had a wonderful time.

“Starting at the age of 9, they have had the opportunity to gain new friends as Green Little League has taken a recreational program and given it a travel baseball flavor. These boys and girls were introduced to teams from Massillon, Hudson, North Canton, Fairless and others.

“It’s an opportunity for all children to experience travel baseball in a competitive but fun atmosphere, and to create friendships with children who they will play against throughout the years to come.”

Green LL was started last year and played for the first time in fall leagues. The response was “overwhelming,” said Elkins.

The interest continued this year when the organization held opening day ceremonies for the start of the spring-summer season.

“It was incredible,” Elkins said. “We must have had 1,000 people for games on just four field at Greensburg Park. The crowd was so big that Mayor (Dick) Norton had to park way out by Massillon Road.”

And if the truth be told, Green LL officials are hoping that the attendance at the district tournament is such that a lot of fans have to park a long way from the fields.
