City of Green (Sheriff’s Patrol)
While investigating a two-car traffic crash on Delta Drive Jan. 30, deputies said the male driver of one of the vehicles appeared to be asleep. When the man got out of the vehicle, deputies observed a syringe in plain view on the driver’s seat. Also, a medicine bottle was found in the man’s jacket pocket that deputies said contained suspected heroin and cocaine. The 35-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of drugs and drug abuse instruments and booked into the Summit County Jail.

A 27-year-old Sturgeon Drive man was placed into custody Jan. 30 after deputies discovered he had an active warrant for drug possession in Portage County. The man was a passenger in a car that was stopped for speeding on South Main Street.

Several residents on Aldis Drive reported damage Jan. 30 after someone shot paint balls at a number of homes and vehicles. Deputies searched the area but were unable to find any suspects.

Also on Jan. 30, a September Drive resident told deputies he caught a white male in his 20s rummaging through his truck parked in the driveway. When he ran outside and yelled, the suspect jumped in a black Ford pickup truck and fled, he said. Deputies were unable to locate the vehicle.

A 48-year-old Springfield Township man was charged with theft Jan. 29 after deputies accused him of stealing scrap metal outside a Massillon Road business.

A Dover man reported that while he was working out at a Massillon Road fitness center Jan. 28, someone entered his unsecured locker and took several credit cards, a debit card and $85 in cash.

On Jan. 27, a Green High School student reported that someone stole an iPod and $20 from her unsecured locker. On the same day, a Nine Iron Drive woman reported a burglary at her apartment. A TV and laptop computer, total value $2,800, were taken, she said.

A substitute teacher at a Greensburg Road school told deputies Jan. 27 that a woman threatened to make her life “a living hell” after she disciplined the woman’s son in class. An officer spoke to the woman, who denied making the threat. The matter was closed for lack of witnesses.

Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol)
Deputies charged a 53-year-old Akron man with theft Jan. 29 after he reportedly admitted stealing three boxes of condoms from a Manchester Road supermarket. He told the officer he took the items because “money was tight.”

A Judy Avenue man, 37, was booked into the Summit County Jail Jan. 30 on a charge of domestic violence. His girlfriend told deputies he punched her in the face numerous times. She also said he pulled her hair so many times that she had bumps all over her head. Court records show the man has a previous conviction for domestic violence.

Deputies investigated a burglary reported at a S. Bender Avenue home Jan. 26. Suspects gained entry by smashing a side door window. A flat-screen TV, 60 compact discs, a portable DVD player and two power tools, total value $2,050, were taken.

A W. Rhine Road man, 18, was charged Jan. 27 with unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Deputies accused him of having sex with a 14-year-old Barberton girl, who reportedly ran away from home and was staying with him.

Also on Jan. 27, deputies charged a Farr Road man, 43, with telecommunications harassment. Deputies said he admitted making numerous sexually-oriented phone calls to an E. Iris Road woman.

A Dollar Drive man reported Jan. 25 that someone threw a rock through his front window, causing about $250 in damage.

City of New Franklin
A Canal Fulton Road man told police Jan. 29 that his father’s .38-caliber revolver was stolen from a dresser drawer. Nothing else was reported missing.

Suspects with BB guns shot out four windows at a garage on W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road Jan. 26. Damage was estimated at $650.

On Jan. 25, a Northcrest Drive resident reported that a coin from India valued at $20,000 was stolen from his home. Police found no signs of forced entry. The resident believes the coin was taken by someone who visited his home recently. Police are investigating.

An officer patrolling Manchester Road Jan. 23 observed a van in a business parking lot at 2:40 a.m. The officer discovered the vehicle was not running but the keys were in the ignition. The driver, identified as a 49-year-old Stoner Road man, smelled of alcohol and was asked to perform several coordination tests. He failed the tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated.

An 18-year-old Akron man was charged with underage consumption Jan. 22. An officer said he smelled alcohol on him during a traffic stop on Kertesz Road.

On Jan. 21, a Manchester Road business owner told police that someone used his phone number to obtain services from a company named VoiceNet. The charges for the services have been on his phone bill since last May, he said.

Springfield Township
The pastor of an Ewart Road church told police Jan. 28 that he received a bill in the mail for replacement of the gas line on his property. He stated he never authorized any work to be done. He said he later checked with his gas company and was told there was no record of the repair.

On Jan. 27, police responded to a call from an Alta Vista Road home, where a man reported someone kicked in his front door and stole $700 left on a counter. Upon further investigation, police determined the man was lying about what happened. He later admitted his friend kicked in the door after they both came home drunk and didn’t have a key to get in. He said he made up the story because he didn’t have this month’s rent money. Police charged the 53-year-old with making false alarms.

Police charged an 18-year-old Akron man with inducing panic Jan. 27 after another man said he pointed a gun at him on Canton Road. An officer stopped the suspect in his car shortly after the incident and discovered the reported weapon was an airsoft gun.

A 2006 white Yamaha ATV, valued at $3,999, was reported stolen Jan. 26 from a yard on Massillon Road. The victim said he had the vehicle advertised for sale on Craigslist and had a potential buyer.

An Ewart Road resident told police that a man in a blue or teal-colored pickup truck pulled into his driveway and took a metal brake, valued at $1,300, from his yard.

Police arrested four individuals for theft Jan. 26-28 for allegedly stealing merchandise from a South Arlington Road discount store. Two males, an 18-year-old of Akron and a 17-year-old of Barberton, were accused of trying to shoplift digital cameras. The 17-year-old was additionally charged with possession of drugs after he was found with a bag of marijuana. A 24-year-old Akron woman was allegedly caught trying to steal $152 worth of cosmetics. A 54-year-old Lee Drive man was accused of concealing items in his jacket and leaving without paying for them.

Lakemore Village
Police were called to the high school on Sanitarium Road Jan. 28 after a 14-year-old girl reportedly overdosed on a prescription pill during class. The girl was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital and afterward told police she bought the pill from a female classmate. Officers spoke to the classmate, who said she got the pill from another girl. Both girls, a 16-year-old of Munroe Falls Avenue and a 15-year-old of Junior Avenue, were charged with possession of schedule I/II drugs and taken to the juvenile detention center. Charges were pending on the 14-year-old who bought the pill, police said.

On Jan. 27, a Second Street man reported his 14-year-old daughter ran away from home. She later called him and said she wasn’t coming back. Police entered the girl into their database as a runaway. According to reports, the girl was charged with unruliness earlier the same day.

Uniontown Police
A Sagebrush Avenue man, 25, was charged with drunken driving and possession of drug paraphernalia Feb. 1 after an officer pulled him over for a lane-crossing violation on State Route 619. A box containing a metal pipe was found in his vehicle, police said.

On Jan. 29, a Fairchild Circle resident reported someone accessed his debit card account and made two unauthorized withdrawals totaling $519.

Police were dispatched to a Sprucehaven Street home Jan. 28 to investigate a 911 hang-up call. Officers made contact with a 20-year-old man outside the home. He was found intoxicated and reportedly admitted firing a 9mm pistol in the air. He was booked into the Stark County Jail on multiple charges, including using weapons while intoxicated and underage purchase of a firearm.

A Hartville woman reported someone stole a $300 iPod from her locker while she was at a fitness center on King Church Avenue Jan. 26.

Hartville Village

On Jan. 26, the owner of a W. Maple Street business reported someone paid for merchandise with a counterfeit $20 bill. She was made aware of the bogus bill by her bank, she told police, and believes the incident occurred sometime in the week before.

Police were called to a neighbor dispute on Cree Circle Jan. 23. During the investigation, police discovered a 51-year-old woman at the scene had an active warrant in Canton for failing to appear in court on a suspension charge. She was turned over to Canton police.
