Hale Farm & Village, a Western Reserve Historical Society museum, will bring the Civil War to life Aug. 11-12 at the annual Civil War Re-enactment.

More than 500 re-enactors are expected to participate in the re-enactment, making it one of the largest annual Civil War events in Ohio.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet soldiers and civilians after they participate in the reenactment, hear the sounds of battle, smell gunpowder, shake hands with President Lincoln and shop for a hoopskirt.

Cannonfire will roar across the re-created battlefield amidst the soldiers, smoke, and gunfire. Cavalry will charge toward their enemies as the battle unfolds just yards away from spectators.

Guests will experience the entire flavor and ambience of the Civil War era: soldier skirmishes, including an appearance by “President  Abraham Lincoln,” Civil War-era music and entertainment, a fashion show of Civil War military and civilian dress, an appearance by the U.S. Cavalry and the historical society’s fourth-annual Civil War Ball.

Rregistration for re-enactors wishing to participate in the battle has been extended to July 31.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11-12, guests can relive the American Civil War experience. At 2 p.m. daily, the recreation of Civil War battles in the museum’s North Pasture is just one feature of the event.

On Aug. 10, visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at the move-in and preparation that takes place for the weekend events as organizers set up for the battle.

From 8 to 11 p.m. Aug. 11, a Civil War Re-enactment Ball will be held. Guests dance the Virginia Reel and spin back to the Civil War era at the Hale Farm & Village Civil War Ball.

Admission is $5 and reservations are required. Call 330-666-3711 for more information and to purchase tickets.

Advance general admission tickets are available for purchase at www.halefarm.org.

General admission will also be at the gate. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child age 3-12. Children 2 and under and WRHS members are free.

A two-day Civil War Pass is available for $15 per adult and $7.50 per child age 3-12. For information on attending or participating in the event, contact the historical society at 330-666-3711.
