A Cuyahoga Falls man employed at a Lakemore group home has been charged with death of a developmentally disabled man in his care.

Lakemore Police charged Brandon L. Swain, 26 of Cuyahoga Falls, an employee of Evant Inc., with failing to provide for a functionally impaired person and involuntary manslaughter. Police said he was responsible for the care of Richard J. Sonneberger who died at the Lakemore group home.

Sergeant Eric East said Sonnenberger, 40, was a resident of the group home at 3415 Pontius Road. Police said Swain was responsible for the care of Sonneberger at the time of his death. Police and fire departments were called to the group home by Evant employees Christmas Eve after Sonneberger was found unresponsive in the bathtub. He was transported to Akron City Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

East said Sonneberger apparently drowned in the bathtub after being left unattended by Swain.
Swain turned himself in to detectives.

Both charges are felonies.  He was booked into the Summit County Jail and at this time no bond information is available.

Evant Inc. did not immediately return a call for comment.
