The Lake High School competition cheerleaders have had a fantastic season this year.
The team consists of 19 girls, freshman through seniors. This season the girls have competed at eight competitions. They started in October where they performed at Youngstown State helping to raise money for Breast Cancer. They then competed at Shaker Heights receiving second place, and a specialty award for “Best Jumps.”
In December the team competed at Marlington, also receiving second place. Cleveland Heights was the next competition, where they placed first overall and also received the specialty awards for “Best Jumps” and “Best Tumbling.”
In mid January the team competed in Akron for the “Children’s Cheer Classic”, where the girls earned first place in their division, Grand Champion of all the schools and dance divisions, and “Best Choreography”!
Recently, a regional qualifier was held at Lake High School where the girls qualified to attend the OASSA State cheerleading and dance competition March 7. At states, the girls finished in the top 15 of all the division I non-mount schools. The teams finished their year in Cleveland at the Hard Rockin’ Nationals where they placed first in the medium varsity division. The girls also beat out the small and large division to earn their title.
Members that have competed as part of the Lake competition squad this year are: Captain Sarah Leighton, Regan Crawford, Chelsey Knoch, Whitney Sommers, Alyssa Cuffman, Shelby Garcea, Amanda Conner, Tracy Heupel, Ashley Holcomb, Stefanie Tippel, Maddie Hudak, Paige Ryan, Brooke McMillin, Kaylee Budd, Cailin Clupper, Logan Bonecutter, Celina Ferguson, Maddie Enos,and Alexis Henley. The team is coached by Head Coach Samantha Riordan and varsity assistant Lauren Cully.
