The best amateur golfers in Northeast Ohio meet on the links August 16 and 17 to determine who will take home the 15th Annual Shaw Cup. The event raises awareness for Akron General Edwin Shaw Rehab’s Challenge Golf program, which helps to return the disabled to golf to or learn to golf after an illness or injury. The two-day outing brings together the top golfers from local public courses and private club in a Ryder Cup-format event.

The 2008 outing will begin on Saturday, August 16, at J.E. GoodPark Golf Course in Akron with a better ball match at 8 a.m., followed by alternate shot match at 1 p.m. On Sunday, August 17, singles matches will occur on the West Course at Firestone Country Club.

The Private Club team hopes to successfully defend its title as Northeast Ohio’s best golfers, winning the Don Drumm-designed Shaw Cup for the host course. You can watch the Public Team try and return the trophy to GoodPark Golf Course at the two-day event—spectators are welcome. Team members are listed below and include current Summit County Amateur Champion, David Pulk from Lake Forest Country Club. For information on the event, contact Lisa Makroglou, Director of Development at 330-784-1271 ext. 5554.
