THE LOWDOWN

The conventional wisdom was that if points leader Carl Edwards could survive Martinsville, the Chase was his. Well, Edwards did survive, thanks to a miraculous comeback in which he twice fell a lap down and recovered to finish in the top 10. “That’s just a gift to finish ninth after the day we had,” Edwards said. “Now we go to Texas. I’m excited about Texas.” Still Edwards shouldn’t get too excited. Yes, he has three career wins at Texas — but also three crash DNFs. Further, he has as many career finishes outside the top 20 as inside the top five (four). So the Chase isn’t over yet.
