Zoning approved for assisted living facility in Chatham

CHATHAM - The Chatham Village Board Tuesday approved a zoning change to accommodate an assisted living facility to be built on East Walnut Street. The 50-unit project, called The Villas of Holly Brook, is co-owned by Glen Mathias of Altamont and Reggie Phillips of Charleston. The partners have built similar facilities in Effingham, Marshall, Newton and Shelbyville. Mathias said they expect to close on the land, which consists of six acres on the northwest corner of Walnut and Park Street, next week. Construction should start in October, and the facility could open next spring, he said. The parcels originally were zoned for businesses such as taverns and drive-through stores and restaurants. The Villas will include one and two-bedroom apartments and be open to residents 55 and older. Services will include three meals a day, weekly laundry service, housekeeping and free transportation. "We're looking forward to being a part of the community," Mathias said.
