It is not uncommon for science to change or a discovery to be made which changes the way we look at a food.  Something that was once thought to be a danger to the body can quickly turn into a recommendation.

The avocado is one of these peculiar foods that at one time was thought to be highly detrimental to your diet.  You may be asking, “What did the avocado ever do to anyone?”

Well … due to the high fat content of the avocado, usually around 30 grams, people were urged to keep avocados far from the healthy diet.  Science and research has discovered that the fat we find in avocados is mostly monounsaturated fat.  The monounsaturated fat found in the avocado has been shown to reduce cholesterol.  By adding avocado to their daily diet many have seen a lowering in their LDL (bad cholesterol) and a rise in their HDL (good cholesterol).  This change promotes a healthy heart.

It is simple to add avocado to your day.  For breakfast you may try it with your eggs.  For lunch top your favorite sandwich or salad. For dinner, avocado makes a great topping or spread for chicken or lean beef.
