I’d be remiss if I didn’t send out birthday wishes to a certain Very Important Person who’s celebrating this week. No, not Bruce Springsteen — he has plenty of people already sending shout-outs his way, like the 250,000-plus who will be packing MetLife Stadium over his three shows there this week.
No, I’m referring to Friend of Blogness Carter Bernhard. You’ll recall that Carter is Bruce Springsteen’s biggest 5-year-old fan, and was lobbying to meet his hero this past March while at Children’s Hospital in Boston being treated for issues related to Spina Bifida. The Make a Wish Foundation had been struggling to meet the request, but after his story appeared at Wicked Local Mansfield and here on Blogness, Bruce’s folks came through: Carter got an in-person meeting with The Boss prior to his TD Garden show March 26.
Carter turned 6 this week, and we’re thrilled to report that his mother, Chrissy Bernhard, says he’s doing great. (You can follow his progress on their Facebook page.) He’s been out of the hospital for months, started kindergarten a few weeks ago, and tonight, he’s at MetLife to cheer on his musical idol one more time.
So Bruce, what do you say? How about a shout-out to Carter for his big No. 6? Whether The Boss acknowledges it or not, though, Carter, the happiest of birthdays to you — you deserve it!
