It’s been quiet in Springsteen Country since the tour break started following the New Jersey shows last month … too quiet. Somebody out there should really consider starting some rumors. OK, we’ll do it.
After all, if history serves, Bruce should be getting bored and considering turning up for a surprise, unannounced guest appearance somewhere or other. And where better than at the Little Kids Rock event next Thursday, Oct. 16?
Steve Van Zandt will be receiving the “Big Man of the Year Award” — named for Clarence Clemons, of course — from the organization, which promotes music education for children. The evening will feature performances by Elvis Costello, Dion, Tom Morello, Darlene Love and others, a Springsteen-ready bunch if ever there was one. (Plus it says that there are “more special guests to come,” which is code for “Bruce Springsteen is coming but we weren’t allowed to put his name in the ad.”) Believe it or not there are tickets left, if you’ve got an extra $250 and want to take a chance.
We’re probably not going out on a limb to make a prediction about the other likely Springsteen guest appearance coming down the pike: the Light of Day concerts from Jan. 16-21. (Well, not just concerts — there’s also bowling, apparently.) Tickets go on sale Oct. 2o, and a Springsteen appearance is a pretty safe bet. Unless of course he announces more tour dates during that time, in which case it isn’t.
And speaking of more tour dates, someone Close To The Springsteen Camp had a very interesting Tweet earlier this week: “I learned A LOT of new information at lunch today…” This clearly means that they’re getting ready to announce the spring tour dates, possibly in Australia. Or it could mean she finally got to check out the new McDonald’s calorie signs. We prefer to think it’s the first one though.
Regardless, we recommend you start spreading all of these rumors immediately. And if any of them wind up to be true, remember that you heard it here first.
