Trustee Dean Young read a resolution that targeted business establishments which meet the definition of Entertainment Device Arcades at the March 11 meeting.

“Accordingly, there shall be a moratorium on the issuance of any further zoning or occupancy permits for operation of Entertainment Device Arcades that is defined in the City of Akron Ordinances until further action by this Board and the Zoning Administrator,” he stated.

This resolution is requesting action by the Summit County Council. Akron has been able to eliminate these “gambling” places through their ordinances and the trustees are working toward that goal by using the same legislation that Akron used.

“These establishments do not add any value to our township,” said Neal Hess, the chairperson of the township’s park board.

“The State of Ohio has not dealt with them so we are asking the county council to take action,” said Young.

Hess reported the status of Lauer Park. He said the board will bring a suggestion for a boardwalk over the wetlands within a couple of weeks in front of the trustees.

Hess said both Springfield and Lakemore do have the same set of rules established and they are currently working with the police department and trustees to place officers in the position to enforce the rules.

If anyone is interested in serving on the parks board or just volunteers for projects should contact the township.

Roy Smith was approved as a part time police officer pursuant to a contract with Lakemore.

Police Chief John Smith said Officer Perry Linaburg was recently nominated to be a part of America’s Most Wanted 2010 All Star Contest. He encouraged everyone to go to the Web site and vote for Linaburg. He said residents can vote once a day from the same email address until April 1. The site is www.amw.com.

“I don’t know what I would do without him. He does a great job. I am proud to have him and you should be proud to have him too,” said Smith.

The Easter Egg Hunt is March 27, 10:45 a.m. at Schrop Middle School, Smith said.

Fire Chief Vic Wincik commended the department’s staff for their attentiveness for working in the snow and ice. He thanked the residents for their help clearing away snow from fire hydrants.

The department is canvassing neighborhoods to make sure everyone has a working smoke detector. He reminded residents to change their batteries this month as we change the time.

Reflective house address signs are available through the department.

He said they are continuing to give the CPR classes and their goal is to get at least one person in each house trained in CPR.

Trustees approved fire department expenditures of $3,366 from FEMA Fire Act Grant Fund to participate in the 800 MHZ radio re-banding program with the city of Green. The township will return six used radios and will receive six new Motorola digital/analog mobile radios valued at $21,000. Also, approved was the expense of $1,500 to replace aging and worn out fire hose and hose couplings.

Road Superintendent Richard Kaylor commended the employees for their hard work during the snowiest February on record.

He asked pet owners to pick up pet waste from their yards and dispose of it in the trash and not in the ditches. This contaminates runoff water and at some point ends up in the drinking water, he said.

Zoning Administrator Nick Campanelli listed three properties as a nuisance and to initiate abatement under the provisions of the Ohio Revised Code. They were all approved.

Trustee Deborah Davis stated that there will be a collection day for oil, batteries and paint at Coventry High School April 10.

George Pounders said he has donated hats to be sold and all the money goes to the veterans memorial. They are $10 and are available at the township.

Elva Pounders stated that the Sawyerwood Easter Egg Hunt is April 3 by the pavilion.

She said Wade Park is looking for volunteers to help the families of those in the 60 bed Hospice Center. They are in need of funds for the activity carts for patients, pens, pencils, new books, magazines and word search. They also need twin bed blankets. The VA is accepting patients and anyone who served in Vietnam can go down and request an Agent Orange physical, she said.

The trustees went into executive session.

The next meeting is March 25.
