“Take me out to the ball game...” Well, that couldn't be done for each teacher and staff member of Green Local Schools (Greenwood, Primary, Kleckner, Intermediate and Middle School), but appreciation week 2008 nearly came close!

The “first at-bat” was  May 5 with each teacher and staff member receiving red, white and blue cookies.  Tuesday rounded it off with a “base hit” with everyone receiving a nice bag of peanuts. Wednesday's “home run” brought the teacher and staff appreciation luncheon.  Thursday's “seventh inning stretch” gave everyone got a chocolate baseball mitt sucker and Friday had an RBI with everyone receiving cracker jacks.

The luncheon on Wednesday was a “grand slam home run.”  All teachers and staff were invited to the luncheon by baseball ticket invitation. On this ticket was a stub that could be detached and turned back in to the office.  This ticket stub also doubled as the raffle ticket used for the appreciation raffle.

On Wednesday, the Parish Life Center at Queen of Heaven church was decked out in red, white and blue. Baseball music was in the air when the teachers and staff members entered the room. Food consisted of a mixed green salad, mixed fruit, crudités, large submarine sandwiches, and hotdogs with chili sauce, rounded out with tortilla chips and salsa or chili con queso. The food was provided by the 2008 PTA. All desserts and water were donated by parents.

While the teachers dined, the raffle took place.  The appreciation raffle consisted of donated items from private citizens and businesses around the city of Green.  It wasn't “one, two, three strikes and you're out” with the raffle, because everyone who turned in a ticket stub had a chance to win — even if not present for the event.

A special thank you to Splash N' Dash for donating a free car wash to each and every teacher and staff member!  Everyone received this on Friday in their mailboxes.
There were also 25 potted plants donated from our very own Debbie Ludwig who served on the 2008 PTA Teacher & Staff Appreciation Committee.

Since some food was left over from the event, the teacher & staff appreciation committee graciously donated it back into the community.  A submarine sandwich was taken to the local fire department, the Haven of Rest ministries, the office at Queen of Heaven church and also to Spash n' Dash as a small token of thanks for their support in of the teachers!

Everyone indeed was appreciated that week. Thank you to all of our teachers and staff of Green Local Schools. Without you, we wouldn't be an “Excellent” school district!
The Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee for 2008: Sarah Lapham, Pam Leibensperger, Patty Lori, Debbie Ludwig, April Porter and Melody Sanner.
