The Lake Local Board of Education has approved Julie Boyes as the new head coach of the Blue Streak softball program. Boyes, a former
All-Ohio softball player during her days at Lake High School, was an All Mid-American Conference selection during her playing days at the University
of Akron.During her college career, Boyes was named All MAC (2nd Team, 2006) and the Zips' co-captain for the 2009 season. During her four year
collegiate career, she set numerous marks in RBIs (10th all-time), pitching strikeouts (10th all-time) and Grand Slams (1st all-time).
In 2004 and 2005, Boyes led the Blue Streaks to back-to-back appearances in the OHSAA State Softball Championships, winning the crown in 2005. During the championship season, she swept the top honors
in Ohio by winning the Ohio ³Softball Player of the Year² as well as the Federal League "Player of the Year," First Team All-Ohio, and was a First
Team All Federal League selection for all four high school years. In 2006, Lake High School retired her playing jersey.
Throughout her college playing years and throughout the past summer, Boyes has instructed in various private and team softball
venues as well as served as one of the lead instructors for the University of Akron softball camps. She will receive her teaching license in secondary
education this December.
"We had several high caliber candidates for our position to consider," stated Lake Local Director of Athletics, Bruce Brown. "Julie demonstrated a level of maturity and skill mastery that is well beyond her
years. We believe her work ethic, quality background and understanding of our community and the students in our system will have a positive impact on
her becoming an outstanding coach and leader for our softball program at all levels."
