One in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism, approximately one every 20 minutes. It is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person’s ability to communicate and develop socially and can be accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges.

S.U.P.E.R Leaning Center is located at 1584 Wilson Ave. in Lakemore. S.U.P.E.R., which stands for Students Using Proven Educational Resources, is a learning center for everyone. Students with special needs, home schooled, gifted and autistic have all benefited from the programs offered as well as brain trauma, Alzheimer patients and stroke victims, she said.

The center offers many programs whether there is a need for tutoring, reading, writing, arithmetic, improving study skills, algebra, building confidence, enrichment classes and much more.

The center caters to the needs of the gifted and the special needs children. During the summer and school year they tutor kids from as far away as Youngstown and Cleveland. To Goodwin’s knowledge, S.U.P.E.R. is the only school if it’s kind in the country.

“It is ala cart,” said Goodwin.  “Whether a student comes full-time or for an hour of tutoring, a program is designed for their needs.”

Space is limited for the Autism Summit and registration is recommended. The cost is $10 with registration and $12 at the door. Included in the registration is entrance to the key note speaker, choice of workshop at each session, access to all booths and tables and lunch.
