Every teenage girl dreams of the perfect dress, but sometimes perfect isn’t affordable. The Akron Area YMCA Teen Leaders Club is partnering with the East Market Street Church of God to support young girls unable to attend formal dances due to cost.
“When the Teen Leaders heard that NAME Ministries was collecting dresses to help local teen girls have an opportunity to attend a formal dance, they immediately came and told me they wanted to help,” said Jennifer Pfeister, Teen Coordinator at the Lake Anna YMCA. “This is exactly what being a Teen Leader is all about.”
The Teen Leaders Club is accepting clothing donations of formal dresses, accessories, jewelry, shoes and other offerings that may give teenage girls the opportunity to experience a homecoming or prom.
The YMCA Teen Leaders Club is a program run by teens that brings teens ages 13–18 together to develop leadership skills, establish new friendships and enjoy new experiences. Their goal is working together to make a difference for not only themselves, but also the world they share with others.
On Feb. 28, clothing donations collected at the Lake Anna YMCA will be taken to East Market Street Church of God located on 2084 East Market Street in Akron, Ohio. Please donate any appropriate formal wear or accessories and help make memories and dreams come true.
The Akron Area YMCA is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment of nurturing youth potential, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
