June meeting
Township trustees opened the June 14 meeting asking for a moment of silence in recognition of the passing of long-time resident George Pounders.

KEY ACTION
The Springfield Lakemore Festival Committee is gearing up for the annual Rock the Docks Community Days Celebration.

Trustees approved the use of township properties for the event and also the temporary closing of Canfield Road during the celebration on July 6, 7 and 8.

OTHER BUSINESS
Trustees approved the payment of $1,600 for the annual testing and maintenance for the Fire Department's self-contained breathing units and masks.

The resignation of part-time officer Gregory Joyce was accepted. He will begin a full-time position with the City of Akron.

Trustees approved the purchase of traffic citations and field arrest summons from PPI Graphic for a total of $1,894.40.

This is usually a two-year supply. Lakemore will be billed for 20 percent of the total, which equals $378.88.

Road Superintendent Richard Kaylor reported that the department will begin addressing the requests for service that include the removal and replacement of drive pipes, catch basin repairs and ditching.

His phase II report included that, while they are working, if they come across a bad septic system, it will be reported to the Summit County Health District. If you know of any failing septic systems, call his office at 330-733-3213.

Zoning Administrator Patricia Ryan gave her report that included the completion of 69 complaint investigations mostly due to grass, trash or debris. The department also issued 25 zoning permits.

The term for Nancy Dotson on the Zoning Commission was renewed and will expire May 20, 2017.

The property at 1743 Ronald Road was declared as a nuisance and abatement was initiated.

Resident Tracy McConnell expressed concern about trash and debris in the area of Linn Way. Some properties in the area are owned by Stile Realty. Ryan said she has been driving the area and checking it.

The day of the meeting there was trash, some possibly coming from the trash pickup service. Ryan and a representative of Stile Reality, Mary Thompson, will be addressing the situation.

Also, Kaylor will be checking the ditches for debris and water flow. Trustee Dean Young said the board is concerned about the problem and will monitor the situation.

Eugene Cooke, president of the governing board for the senior center and members of the board expressed concerns over several issues taking place at the center.

The concerns included the fact that money members have raised is being taken over by the township.

Trustees said that in order to handle the concerns correctly they would need to meet with those on the board as well as Director of the Center Bobby Dinkins.
n Resident and business owner Peggy Reed thanked the VASP unit and the trustees for doing a good job.

She asked for their help with the upcoming increase in the sewer costs.

She said that people could potentially lose their homes due to the increased costs and those that are being made to hook up to the sewer lines.

She wanted the support of the trustees at future meetings. This sewer issues affect 13 communities.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Trustee Deborah Davis reported that the township received $174.49 for the recycling of card board and paper for April.

Trustee Bruce Killian said that at the intersections of Killian and Canton Roads you have to stop on the line, or the light will not change.
