Springfield High School senior art student, Corey Phillips took first place in the Council of Italian American Society of Summit County art contest.
The Society is made up of 17 Italian clubs that sponsor the annual Italian-American Festival held every July in Cuyahoga Falls.
The group has been in existence for 61 years and as a way of celebrating their anniversary they invited art students in grades 11 and 12 from local schools to design the cover for the program. Phillips’ design will be featured on the cover of the anniversary program as well as the T- shirts that all of the people involved with the festival will be wearing. In addition Phillips received $500.

This is a nationwide competition and that gives students an opportunity to showcase their talent and a chance to have their entry hang for one year in the Cannon Tunnel beneath the nation’s Capitol building in Washington D.C. Hundreds of thousands local students have participated over the years.
Congressman Tim Ryan, representing Ohio’s 17 congressional district, was on hand for the presentations. Rachel Brewer received ninth grade honorable mention, junior art student, Julie Williams took second and received $150.
