Reeves Cake Shop, the place for brides and all occasion cakes

Weddings involve lots of planning and shopping around. One local cake shop is looking to take care of some of that stress by putting on a wedding cake show sure to satisfy any tastes.

Reeves Cake Shop on Cory Avenue in Akron will be hosting a three day wedding cake show running from Jan. 29-31.

More than 50 cakes will be on display for people to sample. Rick Reeves of Reeves Cake Shop said this event will have many different kinds of cake to satisfy any taste buds.

“We will have white, yellow, red velvet, chocolate, any kind of cake you can think of, we’ll have it,” Reeves said.

Reeves said it was originality that he and the rest of his family put in when it comes to making cakes that set Reeves Cake Shop apart from the rest.

“Another thing that we pride ourselves in is baking from scratch, which makes a difference in the taste,” said Reeves.

This family business has been hosting wedding cake shows for the past 20 years, to give couples, their friends and families a chance to actually come into the kitchen and sample all the flavors Reeves has to offer. 

Over the last 20 years, the shop has been busy doing the show, attracting up to 1000 people over a three day period, with approximately 300 brides.

“It’s  great to see all the people in here. Wedding planning is very time consuming. With the show we get to promote our business and brides get one more item on the checklist checked off,” Reeves said.

“Hundreds of brides come in. They bring their friends, their fiancés and it’s a great time. It can get a little crazy in here, but it’s worth it to see people enjoying our cake show.”

In addition to wedding cakes, Reeves specializes in custom cakes, birthdays and any occasion.

Other items that will be on display at the wedding cake show will be bridal magazines, sample invitations, reception hall brochures and more.

For the Reeves family, Rick, mother Dolores, sister Terri, niece Amanda and staff, this family business is a labor of love. They are glad to be helping people make a decision for a day they will remember forever.

“With our cake show, hopefully that will give people some ideas, and we can work from there. It’s great to see people happy, and that’s what we aim for,” Rick said.

The times for the cake show are as follows: Friday, Jan. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30 from 12 -5 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31 from 12 -4 p.m.
