School: Manchester Middle School, seventh grade.
Parents, siblings: Michelle and John; little sister, Colleen.
Tell us about the National Geographic Geographic Bee: There was a written test in January for the school geography bee. The top 100 go to state.
Is it a difficult test? No. There’s about 70-some questions. It’s long, though.
Why do you think you’re so good in geography? My mom works for the Akron International Friends group. We have a lot of people from all over the world stay with us. And, I go to her meetings.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Peru. It’s cool. There’s old Inca stuff to see. Plus, I like backpacking and camping.
What are your hobbies? I have a fish tank. They’re freshwater. And I like to build model planes. I’m also a Boy Scout.
What troop? Troop 118.
If you could travel anywhere in the United States, where would you go? Back to Arizona. It’s where my grandma and grandpa live. They live in a mountain range.
What’s your favorite school subject? Science.
When you grow up, what do you want to be? I’d like to be a science teacher like my uncle. My dad works for Goodyear as a process engineer. I like Earth Science.
Do you have a favorite teacher at Manchester Middle School? That’s hard to say. I have a lot of good teachers.
What would people be surprised to know about you? I think they’d be surprised to know that I like soccer. I used to play, but I don’t anymore.
About the Geography Bee, you’re the only student in our area to make it to the state. What’s next? Well, I went to Mansfield, that’s where an Ohio State campus is, with my parents and Mrs. Lindeman on April 4. Then we wait and see. They take one per state to the nationals.
Are you confident? Last year I got into the top 20, so I’m hoping. But when Mrs. Lindeman told me I was going to compete for the state, I was in reading class and I was real surprised.
