City council is taking time to further examine issues facing the city in the new year.

Council is considering giving police trainees $7.30 per hour during training. Previously the position was volunteer only.

Council will also take time to examine a records retention and destruction policy. This will ensure records maintenance complies with the Ohio Revised Code.

Another resolution for consideration is an agreement between the city and Summit County for Building Department services. This will be a continuation and will act as an agreement renewal, according to councilman Gust Kalapodis (Ward 4).

A public meeting will be held to discuss a portion of the Revised Zoning Code addressing soil control regulations put forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. The meeting will be held March 5 at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.

Mayor Al Bollas is seeking approval from council to apply for Federal Surface Transportation Program, which would provide for several pending road projects, including repaving 619 and Center Road.

In his report, Bollas addressed allegations that law director Tom Musarra was paid $100,000 per year. Bollas said Musarra has been paid just under $30,000 over the past year.

Bollas said Nolley Elementary is taking food donations for local children in need. They are looking for kid-friendly food like macaroni and cheese and microwavable kids meals. For more information, those interested can contact Jennifer Prexta at 330-882-4133.

The next regular meeting will be held Feb. 3 at city hall, 7 p.m.
