Jo Anne Ragan of New Franklin is healthier. Her success in losing nearly 120 pounds gained her notability as a Weight Watchers Inspiring Stories of Change winner.

Chosen from thousands of entries for her success in getting healthy and making better choices she will serve as an inspiration to many others wanting a healthier life. Ragan’s inspiring story will be featured in the 2010 January/February issue of Weight Watchers Magazine.

Ragan works for a local telemarketing firm. Her determination to get on the fast track at the firm was what inspired her to take control of her health. Since her company promotes healthy lifestyles, she knew her weight—nearly 275 pounds—would hold her back.

With the help of Weight Watchers, Ragan was able to start a healthier diet and take part in more physical activity.  She lost a total of 116.5 pounds and got the promotion to her dream job.

Maybe Ragan can serve as an inspiration to the many of us that have made those New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, get healthier or eat better.  Ragan offered some tips for those wanting to change their lifestyle. “In order to lose weight, a change in lifestyle is essential. For me, this entailed having a proper schedule including waking up early, eating a healthy breakfast and exercising,” Ragan said.

Proper diet is important for anyone’s health. She stated that eating habits must improve. She suggested instead of eating heavy fried foods, turn to fresh produce (vegetables and fruits), drink plenty of water and prepare meals in a healthier manner using little oil and baking rather than frying.

Ragan also stated that physical activity is very important.  Exercise is a must if you want to reach your health and wellness goals. “I’m fortunate to work for a company that promotes healthy lifestyles, so I work out at lunch and after work four days a week, including a mix of cardio boot camp, strength training, Pilates and yoga,” she said.

“Making small, simple changes leads to positive emotional and physical benefits. The boost in confidence and self-esteem I’ve gained has allowed me to take risks I wouldn’t have in the past,” Ragan said.
