About $100 in cash and a necklace valued at $500 were reported stolen Jan. 2 from a home on Laburnum Drive.
Deputies were called to an Eagles Drive apartment building Dec. 31 after a man reported he observed his neighbor’s door was open with no one inside. Officers discovered the apartment had been ransacked. Three LCD TVs, three laptop computers, two handguns and a video game system were reported taken.
A Mayfair Road resident told deputies that sometime between Dec. 22 and Dec. 31, someone cut down a Frazier fir on his property. The tree was valued at $200.
Someone broke into a locked garage at a home on Moore Road Dec. 31. Several power tools, a snow blower, a weed eater, copper pipe and plumbing fixtures were reported stolen.
On Dec. 30, a Buck Trail man told deputies that someone withdrew $383 from his bank account. The unauthorized transaction occurred in California, according to the report.
Also on Dec. 30, a sales clerk at an Arlington Road pet store said a woman bilked him out of $40. The suspect, an apparent scam artist, paid for a low-cost item with a $50 bill. Upon receiving her change, she reportedly slipped two $20 bills into her pocket. She then complained to the clerk that she wasn’t given the proper amount back. The clerk didn’t realize he had been cheated until after the woman left the store.
Vandals smashed out a window on a shuttle bus at the Akron-Canton Airport Dec. 29.
An Akron man said he received a counterfeit bill as change after making a purchase at a gas station/convenience store on East Turkeyfoot Lake Road Dec. 28.
A Coventry Township woman reported her purse was stolen after someone broke into her car while parked at an Interstate Parkway business Dec. 28.
On the same day, employees at an East Turkeyfoot Lake Road gas station said a man drove off without paying for $45 worth of gas.
Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol)
A Barberton woman reported her purse was stolen while she was attending a New Year’s Eve party at a Manchester Road bar. The purse contained a debit card, cell phone, camera, and the woman’s car and house keys.
The owner of a Portage Lakes Drive business told deputies Dec. 30 that someone stole more than $9,000 from her bank account. The matter is under investigation.
A 1998 Chevy Cavalier and a 1997 Ford Taurus were reported stolen Dec. 29 from an auction lot on Ley Drive. Value of the vehicles was not known.
The president of a youth football program told deputies that $15,000 was discovered missing from the program’s account following a recent audit. An internal bank audit was being conducted at the time of the report.
City of New Franklin
A 56-year-old Rennie Court man was charged with domestic violence Dec. 27. Police said he struck his wife in the face with the back of his hand, causing her to fall and injure her back. The assault climaxed an all-day argument at the couple’s home, reports said.
A 19-year-old Cuyahoga Falls man stopped for a traffic violation on State Route 93 Dec. 27 was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a glass pipe was found in his glove box.
On Dec. 26, a W. Comet Road woman said she received three text messages from an unknown woman that she believed were harassing in nature. She told police she contacted the suspect and told her to stop texting her. The suspect, in a final message, responded with “Bring it on.” An officer called the phone number attached to the text message and got a general voice mailbox. He left a message to contact the police department.
A resident reported some property was stolen from a rental storage unit on Manchester Road. He told police the unit was locked and that he had the only set of keys. Tools, electrical cables and furniture were among the items missing. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
A 25-year-old Alliance man was arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop on Manchester Road Dec. 26. Police said he had a strong odor of alcohol on him and refused to perform the standard sobriety tests. Two cans of beer and a glass pipe were allegedly found inside his car during a search.
A woman traveling with her two daughters on Center Road Dec. 25 told police that she couldn’t avoid hitting a horse after it ran into her lane. The collision damaged the windshield and left side of the woman’s car. The woman and her daughters were uninjured. Shortly after the accident a second horse appeared on the scene. Both horses were eventually caught and returned to their owner, who was charged with an animal control violation.
A Fayette Avenue man said someone used his credit card number to charge more than $900 in purchases at locations in Indiana and Virginia. He told police he had the card in his possession and only the number was stolen.
Springfield Township
A Hayne Road woman called police Dec. 30 after two men forced their way into her home asking about a dog. One of the men, she said, pushed her out of the way as he stepped inside the door. The men were told multiple times to leave, but refused. Police charged both suspects, a 40-year-old of High Grove Blvd. and 54-year-old of Curtis St. in Mogadore, with criminal trespass. The High Grove Blvd. man was additionally charged with assault.
An 18-year-old Clinton man was charged with theft Dec. 29 after he was accused of shoplifting a microphone headset valued at $60 from a South Arlington Road discount store.
Police responded to a possible theft-in-progress at a Killian Road business Dec. 29. Shortly after, officers stopped a pickup truck matching a called-in description. Property belonging to the business was reportedly found in the bed of the truck. The driver, a 19-year-old Old Home Road man, was charged with theft, criminal trespass and adult curfew. A computer check also revealed he was driving under suspension. A 15-year-old female passenger, of Krumroy Road, was charged with violating curfew and released to her mother.
A Crestline Dr. man told police that sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, while he was at work, someone broke the rear window of his attached garage and entered his home. He found cabinets open in the kitchen, but nothing appeared to be missing, he said.
A man was observed switching tags on a shirt at a South Arlington Road discount store, but then decided to leave with the shirt without paying. He later admitted switching the tags because he didn’t have enough money to pay for the item. He was charged with theft and released with a summons.
Suspects punctured all four tires on a pickup truck parked in the driveway of a Connecticut Court home Dec. 29. Damage was estimated at $400.
A 25-year-old Green man was charged with disorderly conduct after he was allegedly seen urinating in a restaurant parking lot on South Arlington Road Dec. 27. The report said he was standing in direct view of customers while they were dining.
On Dec. 25, a Krumroy Road man told police that a man named Ronnie tried to get into the sliding glass door at his home. He said the suspect jumped off the deck and fled on foot. Officers could find no footprints in the snow.
A 24-year-old Barberton woman was charged with theft Dec. 24 after she was accused of hiding $77 worth of merchandise in her purse at an Arlington Road department store and leaving without paying.

On Dec. 28, a Sanitarium Road man reported someone spray-painted a smiley face on the front of his house.
Uniontown Police
On Jan. 3, a Mogadore Avenue woman reported a verbal altercation took place between her and her boyfriend. She told police there were no threats or physical violence. The boyfriend left the home after the dispute. No charges were filed.
On the same day, a Cleveland Avenue woman reported her 57-year-old male cousin had not been seen or heard from since Dec. 31.
Hartville Village
A Team Once Giant bicycle valued at $3,500 was reported stolen Jan. 2 from a garage in the 1400 block of Wisteria Avenue.
A 40-year-old Jefferson Street man was arrested for driving under the influence Dec. 31 after he was stopped in a Lincoln Street park after hours. Police said he performed poorly on several coordination tests and later blew a .133 on a blood alcohol test given at the Marlboro Police Department.
