City of Green (Sheriff’s Patrol)
An Akron woman reported her wallet was stolen from the top of her purse while she was shopping at a supermarket on Corporate Woods Parkway Dec. 17. The wallet contained $100 in cash, a credit card and other items.
Also on Dec. 17, a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra valued at $1,000 was reported stolen from the parking lot of a Delta 77 Drive apartment complex.
A Berna Road man said someone stole a 5-gallon water jug containing $4,000 in assorted coins from a back bedroom at his home.
Deputies charged a 45-year-old Treeview Drive man with domestic violence Dec. 16. He is accused of kicking in a bedroom door at his home after his wife locked it to get away from him. The woman fled and called for help from a cell phone. The man was booked into the Summit County Jail.
A Robins Trace woman said an $8,000 diamond engagement ring was missing from her home. She told deputies she last saw the ring about a month ago.
Deputies responded to a call from a South Main Street drug store Dec. 16, after employees reported seeing two women shoplifting unspecified merchandise and leaving in a green Chevy Lumina.
On the same day, a 4-foot Christmas wreath valued at $300 was reported stolen from outside a Panay Drive home.
Also on Dec. 16, a barbershop owner on E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road reported receiving several unwanted calls from a former employee. He did not wish to file charges but only wanted the incidents documented, the report said.
The managers of two Arlington Ridge stores told deputies a woman purchased merchandise Dec. 15 using fraudulent traveler’s checks. Total loss in the two incidents was $300.
An E. Nimisila Road man, 24, was charged with criminal damaging Dec. 15 after he was accused of breaking the door on a fence outside an Aldis Drive home.
A woman waiting for a flight at the Akron-Canton Airport Dec. 15 said a man was offending her by the way he was sitting in a chair with his hands tucked under his belt. A deputy spoke to the man, who said he was sleeping and just had a habit of placing his hands under his belt while he was at rest. He was told not to do it anymore while at the airport.
Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol)
An Elderberry Drive man, 56, was booked into the Summit County Jail on a domestic violence charge Dec. 14. Deputies said he struck his brother, 55, in the head with his fist during an argument at their home. The victim was treated for a laceration.
Deputies investigated an attempted break-in reported at a Manchester Road beauty salon Dec. 16. A door handle was found broken at the rear of the building.
On Dec. 15, a W. Pace Avenue man reported someone used his personal information to obtain a credit card, and then later used the card to defraud him out of $1,086.
On the same day, a Roller Avenue man reported a CD case with 24 disks, total value $360, was stolen from his car.
A 74-year-old man told deputies he brought a young woman back to his Chaffin Court home after she asked him for help in an area of Brown Street in Akron. He said he gave her something to eat and then she told him she was going outside for a smoke. Shortly after, he realized the woman had stolen his vehicle. Deputies described the suspect as a white female in her 20s, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with long sandy-blonde hair.
City of New Franklin
On Dec. 17, a cashier at a W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road gas station reported an unknown suspect stole her cell phone. She said the person came in to pay for fuel and cigarettes and when she turned around to wait on another customer, the suspect snatched her phone.
A Vanderhoof Road woman told police on Dec. 13 that someone entered her unlocked car in the driveway and stole a personal ID badge. Two days later the badge was turned in at the Barberton Police Dept. and returned to the woman.
Also on Dec. 13, a Melcher Avenue man reported his 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck was stolen from outside his home. He said he had left the keys in the ignition. He also told police he found a backpack in the street where the vehicle was stolen. Police recovered the backpack and canvassed the area, but were unable to find anything suspicious. Later the same day police were notified the vehicle was recovered in Barberton.
A 2001 Kawasaki dirt bike of an unknown value was reported stolen Dec. 11 from an unattached garage on Florian Drive. Police believe the suspect entered through an unsecured side door.
Springfield Township
Two individuals were charged with theft Dec. 17-18 for allegedly stealing merchandise from a South Arlington Road discount store. A 41-year-old Akron man was observed putting a cell phone in his pocket and leaving without paying. A 17-year-old girl was reportedly caught shoplifting four bottles of nail polish.
Also on Dec. 17 at the same location, an Akron woman reported someone stole her wallet while she was shopping. She later learned an unauthorized transaction for $105.44 was made at the store on a debit card found inside the wallet. Security officers were reviewing surveillance video.
A 19-year-old woman told police Dec. 16 that someone entered her car at a S. Arlington Road restaurant and took her purse and Bible. The items were found the next day in the back parking lot of the location and returned to the woman.
A 19-year-old New Franklin man was arrested for theft Dec. 15 after he was observed removing price tags and concealing two items at a South Arlington Road department store.
Police investigated a burglary reported at a Trent Drive home Dec. 14. According to reports, suspects smashed a back patio door to gain entry and once inside stole numerous items, including four rifles, two flat-screen TVs, video games and controllers and a digital camera.
On Dec. 14, a Uniontown woman said someone grabbed her purse from a shopping cart while she was putting merchandise in her car at a S. Arlington Road store.
A utility trailer valued at $2,100 was reported stolen Dec. 14 from the driveway of a Massillon Road home.
A 40-year-old Akron man was arrested Dec. 13 for theft and criminal trespass. Police alleged he was trying to shoplift $78 worth of clothing from a S. Arlington Road discount store. Records showed he was arrested at the same store about a year ago and told to stay off the property.
A Howard Lane man reported $2,000 was stolen from a closet at his home. He told police he suspects a family member who was cleaning the home at the time.
Police issued a warrant Dec. 13 for a 26-year-old Akron man, charging him with domestic violence. He is accused of calling a Pickle Road woman and telling her he was going to shoot her in the face for calling the police on him earlier in the day.
On the same day, a Shanafelt Avenue woman told police her 31-year-old son stole her debit card and used it at various locations within a month period, eventually withdrawing $3,000 from her account. She believes he took the card from her checkbook and obtained her PIN number written inside.
On Dec. 12-13, residents on Celia Avenue and Greenleaf Road reported their mailboxes were damaged by vandals.
Lakemore Village
On Dec. 14, the manager of a Canton Road liquor store reported an Akron man cashed his mother’s Social Security check for $1,626. It was later discovered the man’s mother had been dead for over a year.
Four days before at the same store, an Akron man cashed four Kent State University checks totaling $2,434. The store later learned the checks were counterfeit.
Uniontown Police
Thieves entered two unlocked vehicles outside a Middletown Street home Dec. 21. Two GPS devices and a wallet, total value $375, were reported stolen.
Police investigated an attempted burglary at a Mogadore Avenue home Dec. 19. A basement window was pried open and the glass shattered.
Someone broke into a pickup truck on Apache Street Dec. 18 and stole stereo equipment, a 200-piece tool set and a radiator, total value $1,650. Police said the suspect pried open a rear slider window to gain entry.
On Dec. 17, a vendor at an Edison Street flea market reported his $500 cell phone was stolen after he left his booth for a short time.
Hartville Village
Police responded to a call of a reckless driver on Prospect Avenue Dec. 21. Shortly after, an officer located a car matching the description in the 100 block. Two young men were observed walking away from the vehicle. During the investigation, police discovered both men had warrants out on them.
Police were investigating a burglary reported at an E. Maple Street home Dec. 16. According to reports, someone entered through an unlocked garage door and then forced open a main door to the house. Several bedrooms were rummaged through. Approximately $850 worth of jewelry was reported missing.
