Lakemore, Ohio -

Lakemore Mayor Mike Kolomichuk was the invited guest for Lakemore Elementary’s 83 recognition assembly.

Principal Chuck Sincere, welcomed the 242 students, the staff and guests to the assembly stating, “All of our Lakemore students deserve some type of recognition. We have done so many things this year. It has been an outstanding year. We are very proud of our students and our community. It is like family here. I see the folks walking in, everyone coming together kids and our staff and it benefits these children, providing them with a quality education everyday they walk through these doors.”

Kolomichuk spoke to the students talking about citizenship. He explained that citizenship goes far beyond getting along with classmates, brothers and sisters, or mom and dad.

“It starts with each and everyone of you. It means getting up each day and going to school, doing your homework, cleaning your room and maybe taking care of your pet,” he said.

Kolomichuk said being a good citizen means that students always try to do what you are supposed to do and that it also means making sure to be helpful.

“When you grow up and you are a good citizen and you do things you are supposed to do good things will happen to you,” he stated. “You should help your teachers; your classmates and when you leave here take that home with you.”

He told the children that they could be good citizens during the summer by making sure that they play safely, making sure they are not riding in traffic on their bikes and if they need to be sure to be home by the time their mom said. “Being a good citizen means so many things yet it means one thing. It means you know what you are supposed to do and you try your very best to do it. Those good deeds pass off on other people. When we talk about being good citizens and you are rewarded for it you will carry that day for the rest of your life,” said Kolomichuk.

He received cheers from the students.

Many students received rewards for attendance, academics, honor roll, art, music and citizenship awards.

Those receiving citizenship awards were kindergarten students Charlie Anderson, Lillie Soisson, Mikey Vance and Mackenzie Weakland. First grade citizenship award winners were Matthew Baxter, Daniel Hoy, Chloe Meeks, William Gump and Kathie Oden. In the second grade were Cameron Capps, Erica Crank, Sara Dible and Jordan Smyers. The third grade citizens were Christopher Baxter, Colton Ross, Kendra Bowen and Tony Xiong and fourth graders were Vada Sayers, Cody Morrison, Rachel Taylor, Tyler Bailey and Sarah Treen.
