City of Green (Sheriff’s Patrol)
A South Arlington Road man, 45, was charged with domestic violence Jan. 10 after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend and her son at their home. Both victims had visible injuries, reports said. The man was additionally charged with obstructing official business for giving deputies a fake Social Security number.
Also on Jan. 10, a Tamarack Drive woman reported that someone siphoned 20 gallons of gasoline from her truck parked in the driveway.
Deputies stopped an Akron man on South Arlington Road Jan. 9 for driving with expired plates. A computer check showed the man was under suspension and had an active warrant on file for failure to appear in court on a traffic violation.
Deputies patrolling the Mayfair Road area Jan. 8 stopped an Akron man for a lane violation and detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from his car. A drug-sniffing dog conducted a search and discovered contraband inside the vehicle. The 24-year-old suspect was charged with possession of marijuana and released with a summons.
A 49-year-old Lakemore man was charged with driving under suspension and possession of drug abuse instruments Jan. 8. Deputies stopped the man on Interstate Parkway after determining he was driving with illegal plates. During a search of the man's car prior to towing, deputies said they found several syringes. The man reportedly admitted using them to inject methamphetamine.
Also on Jan. 8, a counter clerk at a South Arlington Road restaurant reported a quick-change artist scammed her out of $100.
An East Turkeyfoot Lake Road man, 21, was arrested for assault and criminal trespass Jan. 7. Deputies said the man beat up a woman at her Mayfair Road apartment. The victim suffered a swollen eye and lip. Deputies later found the man was on a no-trespass list at the apartment complex.
A pilot preparing to land at Akron-Canton Airport Jan. 6 declared an emergency after his instrument panel indicated a flap failure in one of the wings. Airport fire and rescue teams responded to the scene. The plane landed a short time later without incident.
Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol)
A 39-year-old Manchester Road woman was charged with domestic violence Jan. 10 after she allegedly jumped on her husband during an argument over car keys. The victim sustained scratch marks on his neck and chest. The woman was booked into the Summit County Jail.
On Jan. 8, a State Street woman reported that someone threw rocks through the driver and passenger windows of her car.
A 21-year-old Akron woman was charged with felony theft Jan. 7. Deputies said she stole a student’s purse while she was working as a custodian at a South Arlington Road school. According to reports, a surveillance video showed her picking up the purse in the cafeteria after the student accidentally left it.
Deputies responded to several reports of thefts from vehicles on Willowview Drive Jan. 5. A GPS device, a duffel bag, flashlight, and 30 video games were reported stolen.
City of New Franklin
A hammer drill in a black case and a cutoff saw, total value $1,690, were reported stolen Jan. 6 after someone entered an unlocked truck on Vanderhoof Road.
On Jan. 5, a Marshallville woman reported her purse was stolen from her SUV while parked in a lot on N. Division Street. She told police the vehicle was unlocked. The purse contained several credit cards, a checkbook and the woman’s driver’s license.
On the same day, an officer stopped two men on Van Buren Road after observing them riding all-terrain vehicles in the dark without their headlights on. A computer check revealed both men were under suspension for driving without insurance. The suspects, a 22-year-old and a 19-year-old, were charged with several traffic violations and summoned to appear in court.
A McTweed Lane man told police he lost his white and gold wedding band valued at about $800.
On Jan. 2, a N. 4th Avenue woman reported an unknown woman continued to send her text messages after she told her to stop. An officer was not able to reach the suspect until five days later, and then advised her to stop sending the messages or she could face charges. The complainant told police she did not wish to pursue the matter.
A Manchester Road man accused a female acquaintance of stealing a credit card from his mailbox and using it to buy merchandise. He said the woman admitted to him taking the card. Police later learned the woman is currently in jail on an unrelated matter.
Suspects with BB guns shattered eight windows on a rental building on W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road Jan. 2. Damage was estimated at $1,280.
Also on Jan. 2, a pair of tennis shoes valued at $130 were reported stolen from a student’s locker at a W. Nimisila Road school.
A 28-year-old Tallmadge man was charged with possession of drugs Jan. 1 after police said they found a bag of marijuana in his truck during a traffic stop on State Route 93.
Springfield Township
On Jan. 7, an Akron man reported a beacon light was stolen from the top of his pickup truck while parked at a Canton Road auto lot. The latch on the rear window was found broken. Damage and loss of property were estimated at $479.
Officers serving a warrant at a Coach Lane home Jan. 5 said three individuals gave them false information about the wanted suspect, and as a result impeded their investigation. Police charged the trio, two males, 18 and 19, and a female, 17, with obstructing official business. The suspect was eventually found hiding in the back of the residence, the report said.
A 20-year-old Akron man was arrested at his home Jan. 5 on charges of telecommunications harassment and menacing. Police said he called a woman 12 times at her Oakes Drive home and told her he was going to break out all her windows and knock her teeth out.
Also on Jan. 5, a Howard Lane man told police that someone obtained his debit card number and used it to withdraw $370 from his account.
Five metal molds valued at $400 were reported taken Jan. 3 from a Killian Road manufacturing business.
Police visited a woman on E. Waterloo Road Jan. 2 after determining her car was involved in a hit/skip accident. The woman said a male friend named Mike came over and asked if she would take him to a local shopping plaza. She said she would, but had to shower first. After she got out of the shower, she found her vehicle was missing along with the keys and $30. The vehicle was later returned. The incident was still being investigated at the time of the report.
An 18-year-old Coach Lane man was charged with assault Jan. 2 after police said he beat up a 16-year-old male in a restaurant parking lot on Canton Road. The victim was treated at Akron Children’s Hospital for injuries and later released.
Also on Jan. 2, police arrested a 36-year-old Akron woman for forgery and possession of drug paraphernalia. Reports said she tried to buy a saw at a South Arlington Road home improvement store with five counterfeit $50 bills. A crack pipe was also found in her pocket, police said.
Three women attending a New Year’s Eve party at a Canton Road bar told police they left two cameras, a cell phone and a memory card unattended on a table. When they returned, the items were gone. Total value of the property was $710.
On Jan. 1, a Mobile Lane woman reported a guitar amplifier worth $400 was stolen from her home. She told police she believes her son took it and sold it for money or drugs.
A 16-year-old Green girl was charged with theft Dec. 31 after she was observed concealing two packages of condoms and mascara in her purse at a South Arlington Road discount store.
Lakemore Village
Police were called to Springfield High School Jan. 5 after two female students were suspended for fighting. An officer spoke to the teens at their homes and each accused the other of starting the fight. Due to the conflicting stories and lack of witnesses, no charges were filed.
Uniontown Police
On Jan. 9, an Edison Street man told police an unknown person called his home and threatened his life. The caller initially said he was looking for someone named Tom and that he wanted his money. Police advised the complainant to contact his phone provider.
Police were called to a neighbor dispute on Basswood Avenue Jan. 7. During the investigation, officers discovered a man at the scene had an active warrant in Stark County. The 20-year-old suspect of Shoshone Avenue was taken into custody and turned over to county deputies.
On Jan. 6, a student at a Market Avenue school reported $76 and a ski pass worth $66 were stolen from his locker.
Hartville Village
On Jan. 10, a Sunnyside Street man told police that someone placed a piece of wood with the words “No Homo” spray painted on it in front of his roommate’s car.
Police responded to a shoplifting complaint at a W. Maple Street store Jan. 5. An officer was told three women were going in and out of the store and that one of them was seen placing merchandise in her handbag. When the manager asked the woman if she was going to pay for the items, the woman reportedly took them out of her handbag and placed them on the counter. The manager told the woman she had called the police. The three women left soon after.
