Wingate University senior third baseman Hallie Pettigrew (Uniontown) has spent her four years at Wingate winning games and earning awards after graduating form Lake High School. The holder of six career school records, Pettigrew helped lead the Bulldogs during one of its most successful four-year periods in the programs history.

Pettigrew helped the Bulldogs rack up 148 wins in her four years, averaging an incredible 37 wins per season. Her career started with a South Atlantic Conference tournament championship and Freshman of the Year honors in the league. It concluded with a SAC regular season championship, the first in school history, and league Player of the Year honors.

Her freshman and senior teams both advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where Pettigrew excelled as well. She was six-for-11 in five career tournament games with five walks, three sacrifices and three stolen bases. She earned All-Tournament honors at the 2009 Dahlonega Regionals.

“It has been a privilege and honor to coach Hallie for 4 years,” Wingate head coach Michelle Caddigan said. “She has been a leader on and off the field and has obviously gained the respect of her coaches, teammates and the entire South Atlantic Conference.  Hallie has brought tremendous athletic ability and work ethic to Wingate Softball and set a standard for those around her to follow.”

Pettigrew has left her name all over the Wingate record books. She is the all-time leader with 258 hits, 154 runs scored, 58 sacrifices, 61 walks, 212 games played and 674 at bats. In addition, her 68 career stolen bases ranks second on the all-time list while her .383 batting average is fourth in school history.

In her senior season, Pettigrew was named the league’s Player of the Year while also earning first team all-conference accolades. In addition, Pettigrew was named to the Daktronics and NFCA All-Region Teams, along with the NCCSIA All-State Team.

Her honors earned on the field only tell part of the story at Wingate. In her junior and senior seasons, Pettigrew earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III honors. In her senior season, she earned the prestigious SAC Scholar Athlete Award. This award is given to the one student-athlete in each sport by the league, for a combination of athletic and academic achievement.

Pettigrew carries a 3.78 GPA. She is majoring in mathematics and education. She was selected to National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete team in 2007. Pettigrew serves on the Wingate Academic Advisory Board and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. She also serves as a Wingate peer mentor and on the Wingate Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She is long-time member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

“She has never accepted mediocrity from herself or teammates, something a coach truly appreciates,” Caddigan added. “The intangibles she has given to our program are immeasurable. She will be greatly missed, but I look forward to learning of her successes in the next phase of her life. I am certain her future students will learn invaluable lessons and have a wonderful role model to emulate.”
