Rivertree Christian Church on Portage Street entertained approximately 300 Dads and their kids Thursday, Jan. 14 at the third annual Me and My Dad get together. The Rivertree Christian School sponsored the event.
Me and My Dad Director Pam Clevenger said the concept behind the event is to bring families together.
“It is set up as a fun night because we noticed a lot of dads sometimes don’t get involved one- on-one with their child only through sports. This an interaction night, developmentally appropriate in everything that we have set up for the child,” Clevenger said.
Clevenger went onto to explain the event is held in January to help, “break up the winter blahs and just to have a fun night with the kids!”
The first year the event was held Clevenger said they expected about 70 dads to show up, around 200 actually did. Last year the event grew to approximately 300 and this year the event matched last year’s numbers.
“We are amazed because we thought 70 would be really good, so every year we have built more into the program in order to accommodate all of these people,” she said.
The event was set up in several rooms throughout Rivertree. With three volunteers starting at 8:30 that morning, the event was set up by 1 p.m. The event had more than 50 interactive stations from putt-putt golf to basketball, to sack races to a beauty station, to board game stations to a play-dough station.
The event was held for the fathers and children from the Rivertree Christian School.
