How it started.
“It was a chance to do what’s really in my heart,” said Lonnie Freeman. He has always been a performer. After marriage and children, Freeman decided to pursue performing as Elvis. Eighteen months ago he started performing at different shows and concerts. The King was always an influence on Freeman. He saw performing as a way to keep Elvis’ memory alive.
A big hit
Freeman finds it amazing the feelings invoked by Elvis, even 32 years after his death. His performance last August at the Uniontown Festival drew the biggest crowd the festival had seen in 15 years. He will be back for next year’s festival.
More than a performance
“I want to bring joy,” he said about performing. While he hoped to touch people with his performances he never guessed what an impact it would have. His first performance showed him just how he was able to touch people. After that first show a woman approached him. Her eyes were filled with tears. He could tell she was trying to hold them back as she told him the tragic news that her son had died. Since her son’s death she had not been able to stop thinking about it, but she told Freeman that this show had made it possible for her to keep her mind off her grief. “God has put me in this place for a reason, and it’s not for me,” said Freeman.
