Boy Scout Troop 935 is pleased to announce that four of its Scouts earned the Eagle rank late in 2009. They will be recognized at a special Court of Honor ceremony on Jan. 30 at McDonaldsville St. Paul United Methodist Church in Jackson Township.

Alex Weber
Alex A. Weber has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts  of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. According to Scoutmaster  Kevin Irwin, Alex is the 47th scout from Troop 935 to earn the Eagle rank since the troop was founded in  1967. 

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or  synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle; Alex chose to restore the landscaping at St. George  Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church for his Eagle project. He has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Patrol Leader  and Assistant Patrol Leader, holds a fifth-year Pipestone, Polar Bear Award and is a Vigil Honor Member  of the Order of the Arrow.

Alex is a member of St. George Serbian Eastern Orthodox and is active in Habitat For Humanity,  German Club, and Student Council at Jackson High School, where he is a junior. 

He is the son of Mike Weber of Jackson Township. 

Brandon Tate
Brandon J. Tate has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts  of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. A member of Troop 935 at the McDonaldsville St. Paul United Methodist Church, Brandon is one of  approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. According to Scoutmaster Kevin  Irwin, Brandon is the 48th scout from Troop 935 to earn the Eagle rank since the troop was founded in 1967. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or  synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle; Brandon chose to construct a Frisbee golf course at  Boettler Park in Green for his Eagle project. 

He has served in several troop leadership positions and holds a fifth-year Pipestone. Brandon is the  Brotherhood Chariman for Sippo Lodge, is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow and  attended the SCUBA Adventure at SeaBase in the Florida Keys in 2008. Brandon attends Green High School, where he is a junior and participates on the swim and track  team and is involved in German Club.

He is the son of Jake and Patty Tate of Jackson Township.

Clayton Smith
Clayton M. Smith has earned the highest advancement award the Boy  Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

A member of Troop 935, sponsored by the McDonaldsville St. Paul United Methodist Church,  Clayton is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. According to  Scoutmaster Kevin Irwin, Clayton is the 45 th scout from Troop 935 to earn the Eagle rank since the troop  was founded in 1967. He is also a third generation Eagle Scout and the 7 th of his extended family to earn  the award.   

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or  synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle; Clayton chose to construct an outdoor amphitheater  at McDonaldsville St. Paul UMC for his Eagle project.  

He is a Vigil Honor member in the Order of the Arrow and currently serving as Lodge Chief of SippO Lodge #377, in addition to being an officer on the Section level of the OA. He is a fifth-year Pipestone  holder and was a staff member at 7 Ranges Scout Reservation in 2007.

He attended the 2005 National  Jamboree, 2008 OA ArrowCorps5 at Mark Twain National Forest, SCUBA Adventure at SeaBase in  2008, and National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2009.

This coming summer he will be leading a  Crew to the OA Canadian Odyssey Voyage and serve as a staff member at the 2010 National Jamboree,  the last to be held at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.   

Clayton is a member of the McDonaldsville St. Paul UMC and a Senior at Jackson High School where he is a three year letterman and co-captain on the varsity boys swim team. For the past two years  he has been a lifeguard and volunteer swim coach at the Jackson David YMCA and Shady Hollow  Country Club.  He is planning on attending Ashland University next fall as a member of the men’s varsity  swim team.

He is the son of Jack and Carol Smith of Jackson Township.  

Connor L. Reese
Connor L. Reese has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of  America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

Connor  is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.

According to Scoutmaster  Kevin Irwin, Connor is the 46th scout from Troop 935 to earn the Eagle rank since the troop was founded in  1967. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or  synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle; Connor chose to construct a series of five raised planters  boxes at Strausser Elementary to be utilized for science experiments for his Eagle project.  

He is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow and has served as a member of the OA  Ceremonial Team. He has served in several leadership positions within his troop, including senior patrol  leader and assistant senior patrol leader and holds a fifth-year Pipestone. Connor attended the National Youth  Leadership Training Camp in 2005, SCUBA Adventure at SeaBase in the Florida Keys in 2008, and plans to  attend the 2010 National Jamboree in July, the last to be held at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.  

Connor is a member of Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church and is a junior at Jackson High’s  School for the Arts. He is a three-year member of Jackson’s Mock Trial Team, Chorale, where he serves as  Baritone Section Leader, Men’s Chorus, and musical, as well as a second-year member of Jacks-N-Jills, which performs throughout the area including Cleveland Cavaliers games each year. Connor has been  selected for the 2010 Ohio Univeristy Honors Choir in Athens, and is to be inducted into the Tri-M  music honor society in February 2010.

He is active in theatre throughout northeast Ohio having attended the  Broadway Summer Camp at Playhouse Square in Cleveland for the past two summers and is currently cast in  the production of Pride and Prejudice at Weathervane Theatre in Akron. For the last two years, Connor has  also volunteered as a youth counselor at Royal Family Kids Camp, a summer camp for foster children, and is  on the Board of Directors for the graduate program of Royal Family Kids Camp.  

He is the son of David and Teri Reese of Jackson Township.  

The four new Eagle Scouts join other outstanding American citizens who have earned this honor, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer  Steven Spielberg, and the head of the F.B.I., William Sessions.
