Ted Herncane is the newest member of the Massillon Public Library’s Board of Trustees. He was appointed by the Massillon City Schools Board of Education on Wednesday night, Jan. 27, and will serve the remaining three years of the term vacated by Phillip Elum who was elected to the City School Board in November and took office in January. Ted took the Library Board’s oath of office on Thursday, Jan. 28, at his first meeting.

A 1998 graduate of Washington High School, he graduated with a B.A. degree in Economics and Political Science from Capital University in 2002, and earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Akron in 2005. He lives in Massillon with his wife Michelle and daughter Chloe.

The Library Board elected its officers for the calendar 2010 on Jan. 28. Massillon attorney Glen Buttacavoli is president; Kathleen H. Green is vice president and Patricia Beane is secretary. Both  Green and Beane are retired from the Massillon City Schools.

Since the death of the library’s fiscal officer in October 2009, the Board has been working with an interim Fiscal Officer Mary Schultz until the vacant position can be filled.

The board meets the fourth Thursday of each month, January through October, at 4 p.m. in the main library auditorium. The November and December meeting dates are adjusted for the Thanksgiving and Christmas.
