On Saturday night, Nov. 6, while most people in the community will go about their typical weekend business, participating in pastimes like shopping and going to the movies, a counter-cultural group of people will be makes a difference in the life of a few children in need in an extravagant way.
The Jackson Belden Chamber of Commerce and Merrill Lynch will be hosting their 5th annual DreamMakers Auction Casino Night. At this event, thousands of dollars will be raised to help terminally ill children make a last wish come true. The event benefits the children through the Make-A- Wish Foundation.
Throughout the night, participants will be able to take part in live auctions, silent auctions and gaming tables where they win Make-A-Wish Dollars that they exchange for tickets that can be redeemed for prizes.
“Each grant is $6,000. We have made three grants, we set a goal for how many wishes we want to meet. This year we have two children but we have an alternate third if we raise enough money through the event,” said Ruthanne Wilkof, President and CEO of the Jackson Belden Chamber of Commerce. “My feeling is the event is extremely worth while and beneficial. It's a cause we believe in. The event itself is a clean fun event and at the end of the evening it's extremely rewarding.”
In the past, this event has raised over $18,000 and granted wishes for at least three other children.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps bring joy to terminally ill children.
“Since 1980, the Make A Wish Foundation has given hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions,” said President David Williams on the Make-A- Wish website at www.wish.org.
The event will be held at the Glenmoor Country Club from 6 to 11 p.m. Admission is $75 per person and $125 per couple.
For those hoping to help grant a child’s wish this fall, more details and info on the event can be found at the website for the Jackson Belden Chamber of Commerce at www.jbcc.org.
