How long have you been the Commander of the Summit County Drug Unit?
I have been the commander of the drug unit since 2001.

Why did you choose this area of police enforcement, the drug trafficking?
I spent the better part of my career working with narcotics in the sheriff’s office. When it was created, I was asked to command.

What was your reaction to being nominated for the Outstanding Task Force Commander Award?
I was very honored by that. I really think it speaks volumes about the staff that the sheriff has and the commitment we have to the communities that we serve.

Thoughts on placing second in the nation?
There is a lot of people like myself, working hard doing the same job trying to improve our communities. We're talking nationwide. It's really gratifying to know that you are doing that kind of job.

Have you ever felt your life was threatened in the line of duty?
Not exactly threatened, we've run into cases were things go uneasy, but other than that, no. That kind of stuff goes with the territory. We deal with people every day that have no regard for authority, so it's always in the back of our minds to make sure everybody goes home at the end of the day safe.

What is the best feeling you get from this job?
Some of the best things are when we work a case, go into a neighborhood, we take down a house, and the neighbors come out and applaud us for taking out the problem they had. That's really what it's all about.

What advice would you give to people considering this profession?

If you are interested in law enforcement, it's a great career. There is a lot of good that comes out of it. Education is important, just keep working at it.

Is there something most people might not know about you?

One of my biggest hobbies is photography. Last year I actually published a book, nature photography, goes through the seasons, a book called, "Right Place, Right Time."
