Lake Township, Ohio -

Edward Joseph Egan, former Lake High assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent passed away suddenly on July 9. He was 71 years old. Egan, a faithful Lake employee, was involved in the 1-2-3-4 project that erected Lake Blue Streak Stadium and complex area.

“Ed donated a lot of time and was eager to help with anything that needed to be done in support of Lake athletics,” commented Ellis Erb, Lake Township trustee. “He was a big man with a carpentry background who was willing get dirty to get a project finished,” Erb added.

Bob Detling, retired sports maintenance man at Lake, was hired in 1986 after completion of the new football complex. He remembered Egan as a strong disciplinarian. “I watched Ed tame several ornery teenage boys into young men who respected and later befriended him,” said Detling.

When Egan retired, the two began golfing and even vacationed together becoming close friends. “Ed and his wife loved to entertain,” said Detling. Last weekend when Ed was buried all of his siblings were here to attend a family reunion that the Egans were to host. Little did they know when planning the event that they would be in town to attend his funeral. "I already miss him very much," commented Detling.

Memorial contributions honoring Ed Egan can be mailed to Regina Coeli Catholic Church, 663 Fernwood Blvd., Alliance, OH  44601 or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 427 E. Broadway St., Alliance, OH  44601.
