Green Bowling Team Coach Mark Wirbel is happy so far with his team. At this point, the team is undefeated in league competition with a 12-0 record. In addition they are on a 23 game winning streak in regular season play that stretches back to last year.
"The season has gone pretty much as I expected,” said Wirbel. "Last year we were league champs. I knew we had a lot of talent coming back. The boys have a good work ethic. I don't need to push them. They have worked really hard this season. They are good kids which is a tribute to their parents."
"Right now we are assured of a tie for the league championship. If we win on Monday, we will win the league outright."
The five starters are seniors Chris Hardesty, Ryan Trowbridge and Justin Dumke and freshmen Justin Bridgeman and Nate Ripley. Rounding out the starting team are seniors Lee Dewalt, Zack Gray and Mike Fenkanyn.
"Chris has been tremendous under pressure, he has been our anchor," said Wirbel. "Ryan bowls consistently over 200, he is one of the league leaders. This is Justin's first year but he has been solid all year and leads in spares."
"The two freshmen, Justin and Nate, took returning seniors’ places and have been hot all year. I have as much confidence in them as anyone on the team."
"The other three seniors, Lee, Zack, and Mike, I rotate when one of the other varsity players is having a rough time. They have helped to build on last year’s success,” said Wirbel.
"The parent support has been great," Wirbel said. "In addition my JV coach Randy Hanson has really been a key to our success. He has helped build the program at the JV level and has given the varsity the background they need."
