Traveling along South Main Street may feel a little like traversing a washboard.
This has not escaped the attention of the city of Green.
According to Paul Pickett, the city’s engineer, the city believes a combination of factors, all within the control of the contractor, Karvo, caused the road to fail prematurely.
Karvo Paving was aware of the specifications for the project and chose to submit a bid. The company promised to abide by the specifications and affirmatively stated they had the ability to do the job.
When the pavement near West Caston began to fail, Karvo did some core sampling. The testing revealed the pavement was not as thick as specifications required.
More core samples were taken April 29. The city is doing additional core sampling regarding the thickness of the asphalt, according to Pickett.
The city expects to replace the failing pavement this summer.
