City of Green (Sheriff’s Patrol)
A South Main Street woman, 22, was arrested Jan. 24 for domestic violence. She is accused of assaulting her mother by pulling her hair and hitting her during an argument at their home. Deputies also found the woman had an outstanding warrant in Lakemore for underage consumption.
Also on Jan. 24, a King Arthur Drive woman told deputies she discovered some property missing from her home after having several friends over. The items included an iPod, a debit card, a set of keys and five compact discs.
An officer stopped a vehicle on Raber Road Jan. 23 for speeding and illegal lane crossing. The driver, identified as a 31-year-old Island Drive woman, was asked to perform several field sobriety tests after the officer detected an odor of alcohol on her. She performed one test and did poorly on it, and then refused to do anymore. Upon her arrest, she refused to sit in back of the cruiser and became combative and started kicking. She was transported to the Summit County Jail on multiple charges, including DWI and resisting arrest.
On Jan. 20, a Corsham Circle man reported someone obtained his personal information and used it to open a credit card account in his name. The unknown suspect then made unauthorized purchases on the account totaling $7,754. The man told deputies he has been receiving statements and phone calls from the credit card company for payment.
Deputies were called to a Massillon Road bar Jan. 19 after a witness saw a man vandalizing a van in the parking lot. The suspect was then seen leaving in his car. An officer stopped the suspect soon after, identified him as a 25-year-old Parfoure Blvd. resident, and charged him with driving under the influence and criminal damaging.
An Edison Street man, 24, was arrested Jan. 19 for aggravated robbery and resisting arrest. According to reports, the man handed a note to a teller at a Massillon Road bank demanding money and claiming he had a gun. The suspect fled with an unknown amount of cash. Deputies were alerted and pursued the suspect on foot near a supermarket on Corporate Woods Parkway. During the chase an officer fell as he went to grab the suspect, and injured his wrist. Another officer arrived on the scene at about the same time and apprehended the suspect.
Deputies were investigating a break-in reported Jan. 18 at a Moore Road landscaping business. A 1997 Chevy pickup truck, valued at $15,000, and approximately $30,000 worth of tools and equipment, were reported stolen.
Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol)
A Greener Road woman, 19, was charged with domestic menacing Jan. 24 after deputies accused her of threatening her mother with a knife. She was arrested at her home and taken to the Summit County Jail.
Deputies charged a Daisy Avenue woman, 37, with child endangering Jan. 23 after her 4-year-old daughter was found wandering alone on Cottage Grove Road. The woman said she left the child with a sibling who was probably too young to watch her.
A 34-year-old Akron man was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication after he was found sleeping inside a Manchester Road restaurant Jan. 21. Paramedics took him to a detoxification center.
Also on Jan. 21, deputies arrested a 43-year-old Barberton man for theft at a Manchester Road supermarket after he allegedly concealed $20 in groceries and left without paying. Six packages of Kool-Aid, two containers of cough medicine and two bottles of hot sauce were the items the man allegedly attempted to steal.
A Jarvis Road man, 26, was cited for violating an animal control ordinance Jan. 20 after his three wolves reportedly escaped from their cage two days before. Two of the wolves were caught by Animal Control on the day the man was charged. The third was still at large at the time of the report.
City of New Franklin
A North Canton woman told police she found the left front fender of her car damaged after she came out of a Manchester Road bar Jan. 18.
An alarm was activated at a W. Nimisila Road florist Jan. 17 after an apparent burglary. An officer discovered the front door unsecured and pry marks on the doorframe. The owner later reported finding a window shattered but nothing disturbed inside.
An officer patrolling W. Nimisila Road Jan. 15 observed two young males behind a closed business. During the interview, he detected an odor of alcohol on the suspects. Both admitted they had some shots earlier in the evening. One of the males, a 19-year-old of Yager Road, became belligerent and started yelling profanities at the officer. When he refused to calm down, he was charged with disorderly conduct and issued a summons to appear in court. The other male, a 17-year-old of Reed Avenue in Akron, was charged with underage consumption and a curfew violation and released to his father.
Springfield Township
A 26-year-old Tallmadge man was arrested Jan. 21 at a home on Laverne Lane after he was found in possession of a bag containing a white powder, which police said later tested positive for cocaine. The man was charged with possession of schedule I/II drugs and booked into the Summit County Jail.
A Park Avenue man, 30, was charged with two counts of domestic violence Jan. 20 after his wife told police he charged at her during an argument, causing her to fall into a kitchen chair. The woman suffered a back injury. Police said the man also made threats of bodily harm. Court records show he has four previous convictions for domestic violence.
Police investigated a burglary reported at a Tritt Drive home Jan. 20 after someone gained entry by breaking a back bedroom window. Once inside, the culprit broke the locks off a metal cabinet in a bedroom closet and stole a shotgun and case valued at $930.
A 41-year-old Akron man was arrested at a South Arlington Road discount store Jan. 20 on charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said a loss prevention officer observed him leaving with an $80 digital camera without paying. A syringe and spoon were found on him during a pat down.
On Jan. 19, a Northview Drive resident reported someone struck his garage door several times with an unknown object, causing about $600 in damage.
Police charged a 46-year-old Coventry Township man with criminal trespass Jan. 18 after he was spotted at a South Arlington Road department store. He had been banned from the store because of a prior shoplifting arrest.
Three people were charged with theft Jan. 17-19 for allegedly stealing merchandise from a South Arlington Road discount store. A 16-year-old Green girl was arrested for taking $50 worth of makeup. A 28-year-old Akron woman, for walking out with weight loss pills, food and other items worth a total of $43. A 28-year-old Clinton man, after he was observed placing high-priced golf balls into a lower-priced package, paying for the item and then leaving.
Lakemore Village
A Sunnyside Avenue man, 27, was charged Jan. 20 with domestic violence, disrupting public service and criminal damaging. Police said he held his girlfriend down on the ground while trying to get her car keys and then grabbed her cell phone and smashed it. He also slit a tire on the woman’s car so she couldn’t leave, reports said.
A Mohawk Trail girl, 14, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Jan. 19. Police said they found her in possession of a drug pipe while questioning her at the high school on an unrelated matter.
Police were called to a Second Street home Jan. 19 after a man said his 17-year-old son told him he was going to punch him in the mouth. The boy admitted making the threat. He was charged with domestic violence and unruliness.
Uniontown Police
Police responded to two reports of vandalism on Jan. 24. A Williamsburg Avenue man reported finding the rear window on his SUV broken out. A Gulf Street woman said someone smashed out her rear window while she was parked at a home on Hoover Avenue.
A Northdale Street woman, 39, was arrested at her home Jan. 22 on a felony warrant out of Portage County. She was turned over to deputies in that district.
A Smith Kramer Street girl, 16, was charged with possession of drugs Jan. 20 after police said she was found with marijuana at the high school.
A Mogadore woman reported her purse was stolen from her vehicle while she was at an Edison Street church Jan. 19. The purse contained 10 credit cards, two checkbooks, and a bottle of prescription medication. The vehicle was unlocked.
A 15-year-old girl told police her wallet was stolen while she was visiting an acquaintance on Shoshone Avenue Jan. 18. The wallet contained three gift cards, $20 in cash and the girl’s driver’s permit.
Hartville Village
Police are seeking the man who robbed a W. Maple Street bank Jan. 25. According to reports, at approximately 12:40 p.m. that day the suspect walked into the bank and presented a handwritten note to a teller demanding money. The teller handed over the money and the robber calmly walked out, the report said. Police described the suspect as a 5-foot, 7-inch white male, age 34, weighing about 150-160 pounds, thin build, with dark brown hair and a goatee. He wore a stocking cap, a Cleveland Browns sweatshirt and blue jeans.
A 21-year-old Canton man was arrested for drunken driving Jan. 21 after an officer stopped him for speeding on W. Maple Street. Police radar clocked him going 41 mph in a 25 mph zone. His blood alcohol content registered .209, more than double the legal limit.
