Approved temporary road closures for nine roads around the North and South Park areas and in some of the surrounding neighborhoods, and the closing of the Yard Waste Site for the 5K Night Glow Run/Walk, which begins at 6 p.m. on July 1.

n Appointed full-time police sergeant, Daniel Vaughn, effective May 27 at $34 an hour. Vaughn has been working at the Jackson Township Police Department for the past two years in the FBI Safe Streets Task force. He was selected out of three candidates. Trustee James Walters said all three applicants were great and that the trustees appreciate all of the work the officers have been doing with the department.
n Approved paying bills in the amount of $588,859.
n Accepted a number of Community Celebration sponsorship donations as follows: $500 each from A. A. Hammersmith Insurance, Inc. and Rohr & Sons Nursery Inc. and $100 from Sherry and Terry Sampel.
n Approved the following noxious weed resolutions: 3915 Bel Air Ave. NW, Lot 29; 6320 Cardinal Hill St. NW, Lot 51; Lot 137, Emerald Brook Circle NW in Emerald Estates; 8930 Gladys St. NW, Scenic #2; and 4430 20th St., NW.
n Financial Officer Randy Gonzalez and Trustee Walters thanked both Representative Kirk Schuring and Senator Scott Oelslager for their work on helping the township obtain a million dollar grant to build an amphitheater in the North Park.
n Approved moving forward with MS Consulting to design the extension of Strip Avenue for a cost up to $175,000.
REMINDERS: Field of Honor/Field of Heroes is May 27-30 at the Safety Center. Safety Village is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. to noon, June 6-10 at Sauder Elementary School; registration deadline is May 27 at Safety Center. The Farmer’s Market starts every Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. beginning June 9 through October 6. Movie in the Park is scheduled for June 10 in the North Park.
