The Paul and Carol David YMCA once again has a slew of spring and summer programming options. In addition to regular programs such as health and fitness, cardio training, personal training, private classes, child care, child watch and swimming, there are many special events planned. Karate and Tai Chi classes are available in the spring for both children and adults.
According to YMCA Executive Director Jean Campbell, there is something for all ages this year.
“We have all kinds of activities going on during the spring and summer,” Campbell said, “including the Easter Eggstravaganza (held April 12) where kids color and decorate eggs and meet the Easter Bunny.”
The YMCA makes a strong effort to provide a variety of programs that appeal to students and, according to Campbell, the community takes advantage of those offerings.
“All of the youth programs are big,” Campbell said. “Tee ball is a highly successful program. Sometimes playing tee ball is the first time kids are introduced to sports. It introduces team play, being kind to other players, sharing with others and its about being there with friends.”
Healthy Kids Day is planned for April 26, Private Heath Warner Memorial Run is scheduled for May 24 and a Healthy Fun Run for Kids will be held July 26.
Registration for the youth Summer Day Camps is open and the first day of activities is June 2. A variety of arts and crafts classes are planned throughout May, June and July for boys and girls ages 3 to 6.
There area also plenty of opportunities for seniors to get involved. The Senior Fun Club is planning a lunch and a day of fun at the Akron Zoo, a Cruise on Lake Cable and the annual picnic in the Jackson Park Pavilion.
The YMCA has a special Senior Fitness Day set for May 14.
Community members of all ages can get involved in safety programming held throughout the season. Safety programs include a car seat check, CPR certification and Basic First Aid training.
YMCA members are encouraged to make the facility a part of their everyday activities. But the facility can also be a part of special occasions, too. Members can rent a room for a birthday party which includes one hour of pool time.
