  • Release Yoga in Akron will host a fundraiser for the Summit County Humane Society on April 27.
Cleveland-based recording artists The Modern Electric will be a part of the class and their new, self-titled album will be played during the studio's "Vinyl Vinyasa" series class. The class focuses on music played off a vinyl album, a concept that began when Release Yoga staff members decided to try a different musical approach with their vinyasa classes.
Vinyasa is a flowing movement of yoga poses that focuses on breath and, according to marketing team member Sarah Tharp, it is a style of yoga that is suitable for a wide age range of participants.
Members of The Modern Electric will participate in the class and will be available to sign autographs after the class.
"The majority of the band members plan to come to the studio and practice, which simply means to take the class,” owner Pattie Wagner said in a written release. "The Modern Electric is no stranger to our studio, though. I have been playing their songs in my classes for months and the students love their music."
Wagner and Tharp noted that Release Yoga has been involved with the Humane Society since the studio opened in July 2013. The Vinyl Vinyasa class is a donation-based class that raises funds for the cause, with the $2 cost for yoga mat rentals also donated to the Humane Society.
“We couldn’t be more excited to not only feature, but host a local band for our Vinyl Vinyasa class at the end of April,” Wagner said. “The series has been such hit in the Green community and has raised over $1,000 for the Humane Society.”
The April 27 class will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will last for one hour. In addition to the post-class autograph session, band members will also have merchandise for sale. For more information on the event, visit www.releaseyoga.com.
