John W. Halkias will serve as president of the Plain Local Schools Board of Education this year.
Halkias, who has served on the five-member board since 1999 and was re-elected in November, was selected for the post Thursday during the board's first meeting of the year. The board also selected Eugene M. Cazantzes, who was appointed to the board in 2012 and was elected in November, as its vice president, according to the district's website.
Halkias also was appointed to serve as the board's legislative liaison and Ambrose Perduk Jr. will serve as the student achievement liaison to the Ohio School Board Association.
The board also set its 2014 meeting dates. It will meet at 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 19, March 19, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 16, Sept. 25, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19. It also will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 29, 7 a.m. Aug. 20 and at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 17. Special meetings also may be called as needed.
