Diebold has selected an executive with a technology background to lead its Latin American division,
Diebold continues to mine for executives with a technology background as it fills management positions.
The company announced Wednesday that Octavio Marquez, who was managing executive in Mexico for IT management and cloud computing company EMC, as the senior vice president and managing director of Diebold's Latin America division.
Marquez will join Diebold on Jan. 15. He will lead operations in Central and South America, with the exception of Brazil.
While with EMC, Marquez is credited with "developing turnaround strategies that exceeded revenue and profitability goals while improving customer satisfaction," according to the press release issued by Diebold. Marquez also has worked in regional leadership roles with IBM Mexico, NCR Mexico and HP Mexico. While at HP Mexico Marquez served three years as division president.
Marquez will be based in Mexico City. He will report to George S. Mayes, Diebold executive vice president and chief operating officer.
A Mexico City native, Marquez holds a bachelor's degree in business and finance from the Universidad Iberoamericana. In 2011, Frost & Sullivan named Marquez the CEO of the Year in Mexico for the IT and Telecommunications Industry.
